Camp Waubanong: Who We Are

Camp Waubanong has been around since 1924, and has always benefited from the efforts and commitment of good people! During the summer season, we hire counselors, cooks, lifeguards, and other staff that help make camp fun; year-round, camp communication and management duties are performed by an Executive Director. Staff
Camp Waubanong benefits from a dedicated and creative group of staff members every summer! We hire talented people who share our philosophy, and many of our staff members are former campers or counselors. Together, we understand the importance of creating a safe, nurturing, challenging, and fun environment for children.

Each summer, the Directors hire a team of new and returning staff for the upcoming summer season. Often, Camp Waubanong benefits from people’s devotion to camp—one of our staff will be returning in 2009 for his 14th year!

During our regular sessions, each of our ten cabins is assigned a staff member, and often a Counselor in Training as well—our staff-to-camper ratio is no more than 5:1. Because of the extensive wilderness activities, in our Leadership Program we hire experienced counselors who may serve as role models to youths ages 14-16.

Prior to each camp season, all staff undergo an extensive orientation about Camp Waubanong, its philosophy and operations. During staff training week, everyone is trained and certified in Basic First Aid and CPR. We meet American Camping Association (ACA) standards for counselor certification and hours of training required in the various program areas. All staff attend staff training week, and receive further training in their activity specialties, plan for each session, and prepare their cabins and Buchanan Hall to welcome and support their campers. Volunteers
Camp Waubanong is a 501c(3) non-profit organization, and, as such, is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. The Board is comprised of members from the public, private and non-profit sectors. We are lucky to have a team of devoted folks on our Board of Trustees!

We welcome any and all help from the community; beyond money, we welcome donations of goods, services, and materials that we could use to improve camp, or camp’s facilities! Please stay tuned to this page for information on our Spring and Fall Pledge Drives, and our famous fall Barbecue fundraiser! Please contact Kirk Stephens, Executive Director, at waubanongdirector@gmail.com, if you’d like to help Camp Waubanong, in any way.

Campers

We are proud to have campers travel from far and near to attend Camp Waubanong! In past years, we have had campers from all over the United States, Canada, and overseas—there is something magical and beautiful about Camp Waubanong that you can’t find anywhere else!
